Domain de Chevalier is one of the most respected estates in Pessac and Bordeaux in general. It is regularly rated in the high 90’s and I genuinely do not know 1 single wine professional who is not in love with it….other than yours truly. Don’t get me wrong, wines are decent and well made, but just do not do much for me at least not enough to get excited about it ( the red, white is another story). I always find it bit too light ( without being elegant). I can’t put my finger on it, but it just does not work for me. 2019 is not an exception. Whilst it might one day make fine, elegant wine and might work for some people ( I can see that it will be able to develop some fine tertiary, farmyard and woodland aromas), I just can’t get excited about it. I will bow to the peer pressure and give it 16 points purely as everyone else is going into high 90, but I just can't see it. Yours at £ 247.00 per 6 bott ib if you fancy some.
The chocolate, walnut, dark-fruit and stone character is attractive. It’s full-bodied and very tight and linear with chewy yet polished tannins and a long, flavorful finish. Lots of intensity and complexity here, as always. 96 - 97James Suckling.
